How
Do I Become a Christian?
Receiving Christ Jesus as your Savior and Lord is the most
important decision you or anyone else will ever make.
If you have never made this commitment, please take a few moments
to allow us to share Christ with you right here on this page. Many call this
God's Highway to Heaven.
You will not find it on a map, but a Highway to Heaven does
exist. The
The road begins at Romans
We need God's power because we have a problem with sin, "for
all have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God" (Romans
When we work, we earn money. Sin earns wages as well -- wages
of death. "The wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal
life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans
Romans 5:8-9 reveals God's plan for reconciliation of man to
himself: "But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while
we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified
by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him."
God's Salvation is revealed in Romans 10:9 which says "that
if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that
God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." The Holy Spirit tells
us that we need to confess our sin and ask for forgiveness. To confess Jesus
Christ as Lord involves confessing your sin and your need for salvation. You
must repent of your sin, turn away from the direction in life that you have
chosen, and obey and serve Jesus. To "believe in your heart" is
to place your faith in Jesus Christ and trust that He died on the cross to
pay for your sins.
Now that you know about God's Highway to Heaven, what do you
do? If you feel that God is drawing you to Himself, and you now see your condition
as a sinner and know that you need salvation through Christ, then pray (talk
to God) with all your heart the following (or something similar):
"Lord Jesus, I confess to you that I am a sinner and that
I need to be saved. With Your power, I now turn away from my sin and I with
all my heart place my faith in you alone Jesus, as my Savior and Lord. Amen."
If you have prayed this prayer with all of your heart, and
have repented from your sin, it is important for you to share your decision
of faith in Jesus with a pastor or a Christian friend so that they can rejoice
with you and show you what the scriptures say about how to grow as a Christian.
It is important to publicly profess Jesus as your Lord and
Savior. In Matthew 10:32, Jesus tells us that "Therefore, everyone who
confesses Me before men, I will also confess him
before My Father who is in heaven." In Matthew 10:33, Jesus also tells
us "But whoever denies Me before men, I will
also deny him before My Father who is in Heaven." This profession can take place when you join
a local church and are baptized.
Being a Christian, of course, means more than being a church member. You must now cultivate your newfound relationship with God by reading His Word, praying, and walking in fellowship with His people. This will be the beginning of life-long growth in grace, knowledge and obedience.
