Become an Oath Keeper – Now!

Let me tell you about Oath Keepers, not as an official spokesman but as a member since April of 2009. I cannot speak for Stewart Rhodes who founded Oath Keepers in March of 2009, but I can speak as a kindred spirit who loves America and the freedom and opportunity it has always provided me.

Oath Keepers is a non-partisan organization of active and reserve military and law enforcement people and veterans of the military and law enforcement fields, as well as firefighters and other careers that require the oath. Lots of people are required to take the oath to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic” but not all who take the oath really keep the oath.
This Oath Keeper is actively working to help military, law enforcement, and many other public servants to understand what the oath means and what the Constitution we swear to support and defend actually says. Stewart Rhodes who founded Oath Keepers is an ex-paratrooper, a disabled veteran, an ex-firearms instructor, and a Yale educated constitutional attorney. I am not a man of letters myself but I have no problem understanding the Constitution because the language is plain, the meaning is not elusive (especially if you read some of our Founders other writings) and it fits in a small pocket sized booklet that I can carry in my shirt pocket wherever I go.

As a Vietnam veteran who agonized through the Lt. William Calley affair in My Lai, I am well aware that the phrase “I was just following orders” is not an excuse for doing anything that you know is not right. Even if you believe that what you are doing is right, you have to be prepared to face charges and defend everything you did. The 10 orders that we will NOT obey as Oath Keepers are 10 orders that under our Constitution would convict us of violating the rights of American citizens if we obeyed them. Oath Keepers are proud to say that we “would stand down and not obey those orders” and our desire is to educate our active military personnel, as well as those in law enforcement and fire fighting to the fact that they should take the same stand. Here are the 10 orders we will NOT obey.

1. We will not obey orders to disarm the American people.

2. We will not obey orders to conduct warrant less searches of the American people.

3. We will not obey orders to detain American citizens as “unlawful combatants” or to subject them to [a] military tribunal.

4. We will not obey orders to impose martial law or a “state of emergency” on a state.

5. We will not obey orders to invade and subjugate any state that asserts its sovereignty.

6. We will not obey any order to blockade any American cities, thus turning them into giant concentration camps.

7. We will not obey any order to force American citizens into any form of detention camps under any pretext.

8. We will not obey orders to assist or support the use of any foreign troops on U.S. soil against the American people to “keep the peace” or “maintain control.”

9. We will not obey any orders to confiscate the property of the American people, including food and other essential supplies.

10. We will not obey any orders which infringe on the right of the people to free speech, to peaceably assemble, and to petition their government for a redress of grievances.

We are not ‘right-wing radicals’ itching for a fight. Many of us are students of history. We have seen and studied the kinds of things that led to the decline and eventual destruction of other nations throughout history - elements which are well documented. We now see those same destructive elements happening in our nation today. An ignorance of history and a misunderstanding of our responsibilities to preserve the wonderful form of government which our Founding Fathers established, has led us to the brink of destruction.

Too long have we slumbered while politicians and their handlers have incrementally subverted and all but destroyed the foundational principles upon which our nation was built. While slumbering “We the people” have allowed America’s enemies both foreign and domestic - particularly the politicians and their ‘handlers’ - to reduce us to the point of being ‘subjects’ of a government that no longer resembles that which our Founding Fathers established. What we have now is a government that seeks to subjugate and control us from the cradle to the grave. A government that rocks the cradle with one hand while digging a grave with the other that - if left unchallenged - will one day decide who should be in the cradle and who should be in the grave.

This Oath Keeper is proud to say “not on our watch!” Many of us gave the best years of our youth to preserve this Republic (we are not a democracy) and fought hard to keep the pestilence of socialism and communism from spreading across the globe only to see it seize power in our own nation through today’s electorate with promises, clever slogans and manipulation by fear.

Oath Keepers held a ceremony on Lexington Green on April 19th of this year. You can watch a video of the ceremony online at http://oath-keepers.blogspot.com. (In case you don’t remember, Lexington Green is where “the shot heard round the world” was fired that started our nations’ battle for independence.) Oath Keepers also has held ceremonies at 30 or more Tea Parties this year. The association is growing very rapidly and has recently come under fire by some leftist groups. That tells me we are making a difference.

Even if you are not a serviceman, veteran or a peace officer or a fireman, you are an American citizen, not a subject. As a citizen, speak your oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States of America against all enemies foreign and domestic and join us as a Citizen Associate Member.

Stand up and let your voice be heard. The people who would undo America and remove the last great hope of the world do not understand that they have awakened a sleeping giant. A giant composed of true, freedom loving, God loving, patriotic citizens who love their country. A giant that does not want communists, socialists or radical militants trying to destroy our country or have any influence in the White House or anywhere else in our government.

In the next election, be informed, search for the truth and do not be satisfied with clever sound bites from politicians. Look for people to support and don’t place importance on the party they belong to as opposed to what they believe. Find out if they know and appreciate the great treasure that God gave us in this country and make sure they will honor and keep their Oath to Office.
