Through Redress of Grievances

    The answer to end the atrocity of abortion may very well be embedded in the law of the land itself – the U.S. Constitution.  The Constitution established the ‘right to life’ through the 14th Amendment. Section 1 states as follows: “All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the state wherein they reside. No state shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any state deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.” (Bold emphasis added.)

    The Declaration of Independence declares our rights come from the Creator, not the state, and among those rights is the right to life. It states as follows: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” (Bold emphasis added.)
    The Fifth Amendment states that even if we are accused of a crime we do not lose our basic rights – including life - without due process of law. It states as follows: “…nor [shall we] be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.” (Bold emphasis added.)

    In addition the Preamble to our Constitution secures the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity. It states as follows: “We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.” (Bold emphasis added.)

    The First Amendment gives us the right to petition the government for a redress of grievances. It states as follows: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.” (Bold emphasis added.)

    What does it mean to “petition the government for a redress of grievances?”  To “redress” means to remedy, rectify or correct something - to make something right.  A “grievance” is a circumstance or act which causes harm, suffering or considered an injustice, which is regarded as a just cause for protest.

    Violation of our constitutional guarantees to a right to life and, in particular, the taking of an innocent human life undoubtedly qualify as grievances.

    As a result, Save the Souls has been formed to redress the grievance of abortion on behalf of the 50 million babies who have already lost their lives and the countless babies who are in jeopardy of losing their lives through abortion.  Our national Petition for Redress of Grievances Relating to The Right to Life asks that the U.S. Supreme Court and Congress uphold the 14th Amendment right to life and does not allow for any compromises.

    We realize readers will have a lot of questions. The following will hopefully answer some of those questions.

 

How can I read or get a copy of the redress petition?

What is the deadline?

    We started this endeavor in July 2008 and have set the cut off date for receipt of signatures as July 10, 2009. At that point we will travel to the U.S. Supreme Court to file the petition in order to receive a case number.

 

What is our signature goal?

    Generally, a petition needs five to ten percent of the voter’s signatures to be heard.  During the last Presidential Election there were 169 million registered voters in the U.S.  At five percent that calculates to be approximately 8.5 million signatures needed.

    John Quincy Adams helped the Anti-Slavery Society collect 2 million signatures from 1838-1839 in an attempt to get slavery abolished; however the population was only 17 million.  It was another 26 years before slavery was abolished. There is no doubt the role that John Quincy Adams played in the abolition of slavery.

    Just as slavery was illegal prior to the 13th Amendment and the government allowed it to happen, abortion is still illegal as it violates God’s law and the 14th Amendment right to life. It is our prayer that we can get 50 million signatures. One for each baby murdered.

 

How can I sign the redress?

    Please call or email us and we will set up a date when we can meet. We can travel to your church or group meeting and set up a table to collect signatures. We set up a table outside of Planned Parenthood of St. Louis on Forest Park Ave. and at Hope Clinic in Granite City, IL as often as possible.

 

What if I live out of state?

    We are seeking and accepting petition circulators in all states. If you just want to sign the petition then you can have a notary sign the affidavit on the back of the petition. This effectively makes you a petition circulator, even if you are the only one signing. Most banks normally do a notary for free if you are a member. Every signature is important! We plan to travel from state to state, as finances permit.

    We are looking for volunteers. Anyone who can help will be greatly appreciated! Please contact us if you can help in any area. We need volunteers to help with various tasks such as petition circulators, churches or groups that will allow us come in and set up a table to collect signatures, prayer, and financial contributions to help with travel and printing expenses.

 

Who can be a petition circulator?

    You must be pro-life. You must be qualified to be a registered voter. All petition circulators must sign an affidavit for the signatures they collect and have it notarized.
