America is No Longer a Christian Nation!
By Pastor Joe Green
In June 2007, during a speech, Senator Barack Obama made the declaration,
“America is no longer a Christian nation”.
This is a statement with which I strongly concur.
Although
an
estimated 70-80% of Americans claim to be Christians, I am led to believe
that only about 30% of these people live a true Christian lifestyle.
In
our relationship with the God of the Bible,
we do not have the luxury of a personal opinion that is contrary to His Word.
God says that His ways are far above our ways.
Therefore, we cannot trust our own opinions for the reason that, as a
believer, we are required to rely on the authority of the Bible (Proverbs 3).
Secondly,
we are only saved through faith in Jesus Christ. I want to make something
perfectly clear. WE CANNOT EARN OUR
SALVATION. IT IS A GIFT FROM GOD! (Ephesians
2:7-9).
The
Bible says that it is only through
faith in the sacrificial death and resurrection of Jesus that we are saved. Jesus said, “No man comes to the Father
except through Me.” You either believe
He is the Messiah of the World, or not. Jesus
was crucified because He did not compromise His position as the Son of God. Without faith in Jesus Christ, according to
the Word of God, you are not a Christian.
You cannot believe that there are ‘many paths to God’ and call yourself
a follower of Christ! In addition, you
cannot live in open rebellion to God’s Word and possess a relationship with the
God of the Bible. Many people do not want to accept this truth,
but the Bible is very clear.
Ministers
of the Gospel do not preach against sin to be judgmental or hateful. Ministers are required by God’s Word to
preach repentance from sin out of love for all mankind. This is what God calls preachers to do. The Bible
states that the result of living in sin is eternal death (Romans 6:23). Because God
loves us, He tells us to stop openly sinning.
The Bible also states that God
corrects those that He loves. We may
make mistakes and we often sin, but there is no forgiveness for intentional,
unrepentant sin…period!
“Do
you not know that the unrighteous and the wrongdoers will not inherit or have
any share in the kingdom of God? Do not
be deceived (misled): neither the impure and immoral, nor idolaters, nor
adulterers, nor those who participate in homosexuality, nor cheats (swindlers
and thieves), nor greedy graspers, nor drunkards, nor foulmouthed revilers and
slanderers, nor extortioners and robbers will inherit or have any share in the
kingdom of God.” (1Corinthians 6:9-10
The Amplified Bible.) These are not my words; these words are
directly from the Word of God.
The
King James Bible version states the
same with an old English flair. It is
very clear that if we live our lives continually and openly sinning, then, we
do not have a relationship with God. Without this connection we are not true
Christians. Again, this is not my opinion.
It is what the Bible says.
Don’t be mad at me, I am just the messenger.
God
hates all sin, but He despises it more when we ignore wrongdoing and accept, or
make excuses for, sin. If you are a
Christian, you are mocking God when you glorify lifestyles that God says are
unacceptable. We even hold parades for
people who are living in a lifestyle that God Himself called “detestable” (Leviticus 18:22).
I
think it is vitally important to know the truth of what God says about the
issues that are important to our culture.
Most people who claim to love God do not take the time to really study
the Bible. After stating what God’s Word says in my
articles, I am accused of being a “hatemonger,” “ignorant,” and many other
unmentionable things. That’s ok. They called Jesus bad names as well while He
came to die for us. I am in good
company.
It
is clear to me that most ‘Christians,’ and I use the term loosely, are lazy and
complacent. They don’t take the time to
understand what God requires of those who claim to be His followers. They long to make God convenient, to make God
say and be what they want Him to be. It
doesn’t work like that.
Jesus
said, “If you love Me you will keep My commands” (John
