The Liberal Trains Will Bypass All Station Stops
By Shari Rendall

The polls have closed and while the election has given America a historic moment with its first African-American president, the legislative outlook is bleak. The Gang of Three (Obama, Pelosi and Reid) will dominate Washington, D.C., and almost nothing will impede this runaway liberal train – except a new uprising of Christian conservatives.

Now that liberals have steamrolled into the White House and expanded their majorities in the House and Senate, they will try to completely emasculate pro-family accomplishments.  No longer will we be able to rely on a Presidential veto.  We will be completely exposed to the pro-abortion/pro-homosexual agendas.

Once cautious of President George Bush’s threat to use the veto pen and the House and Senate’s ability to sustain it, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-California) and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nevada) backed off from pursuing their assaults on the American family.  Now, they will be emboldened to help their pro-abortion and pro-homosexual allies advance their agenda.  And they will have a willing accomplice in President Obama who has already pledged his support in these efforts.
Planned Parenthood and Human Rights Campaign’s tremendous investment to elect liberals to Congress and the White House will more than likely pay off.

For the pro-abortionists there will likely be more money for Title X (the biggest recipient, of course, is Planned Parenthood), comprehensive sex education replacing abstinence education and the Freedom of Choice Act which will make partial-birth abortion legal again, nullify every state protection including parental notification laws, and require the state and federal governments to fund abortions.

Homosexual activists will expect to get “hate crimes” and the so-called Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) passed.  If they are successful, they will create a special class of victims based on “sexual orientation” and those with moral or religious objections to homosexuality could face discrimination.

Despite voters in numerous states affirming marriage as the union of one man and one woman, Congress, aided by Obama, will likely try to redefine marriage to pander to homosexual activists.  In fact, in his response to the Human Rights Campaign’s survey, Obama stated that he would repeal the Defense of Marriage Act.

Redefining marriage clearly puts it on a collision course with religious liberty.   According to the Heritage Foundation, “institutions that support the traditional understanding of marriage may be denied access to several types of government benefits, and individuals who work in the public sector may face censorship, disciplinary action, and even loss of employment.”

Religious broadcasters and conservative talk show hosts have been a great source of information for pro-family advocates.  Under the Gang of Three this will change as they seek to reinstate the “Fairness Doctrine.”  The “Fairness Doctrine” is an arcane ploy to manipulate the public airwaves and stifle free speech by requiring broadcasters to offer opposing viewpoints.

While the news seems gloomy, all is not lost.  Traditional values did well in campaigns where voters expressed their opinions on a single issue.  And, during the 110th Congress, it was clear that when a majority of Americans across the country overwhelmingly took a position they were able to sway Congressional opinion even when the odds were overwhelmingly stacked against it.  With prayer and education, Christians may succeed in changing the hearts and minds in this country and bringing this country back to our moral roots.

Now as Christians, more than ever, we need to live Christ-like lives so that others may see the light of Christ shining in the darkness.
