Missouri Republican Leadership Council

Primary Election Endorsements

Commentary by Jim Day

In February of this year, the Missouri Republican Leadership Council’s (RLC) state chapter and political action committee was formed.  The stated purpose of the RLC is “to bring together Republicans around the state who believe in a Republican party that is unified by the basic tenets of fiscal responsibility and personal freedom, while allowing for diverse opinions on social issues by its members.” The Missouri RLC Chair is former Senator John Danforth.

As many will recall, ‘former’ Senator Danforth led the battle to codify the destruction of embryos for scientific research and securing the right to clone and kill human beings in the Missouri Constitution through Amendment 2.

The Missouri RLC (as stated on their website) is “proud to partner with” the following organizations: Log Cabin Republicans who advocate special rights for gays and lesbians; The Main Street Coalition which serves as a voice for centrist (liberal) Republicans and partners with individuals, organizations and institutions that share centrist values; Planned Parenthood Republicans for Choice which fights to preserve a woman’s rights to abort her unwanted children; and Republicans for Choice PAC whose mission is to recruit and mobilize pro-choice Republicans, change the Republican Party platform to reflect the pro-abortion position and to help recruit and fund ‘pro-choice’ candidates. These are just a few of the organizations that they proudly support. There are many other unsavory groups. These people are commonly referred to as “RINOs” – Republican in Name Only.

In the upcoming August, 2008 Primary Election, the following candidates have been endorsed by the Missouri RLC:

Missouri Senate

Neal St. Onge, Dist. 7
David Pearce, Dist. 31

Missouri House

Joan McGivney, Dist. 91
Ryan Silvey, Dist. 38

St Louis County Council, North County
