Creation Museum to Celebrate

Its First Anniversary May 23

By Jim Day

Memorial Day weekend will start with a bang at the Creation Museum located near Cincinnati!  It will be the one-year anniversary of the opening of this amazing walk through biblical history.

Ten days of celebration will start May 23, complete with a fantastic and colorful show in the sky by Rozzi’s Famous Fireworks that evening.

Plan now to attend as Answers in Genesis (AiG) commemorates how God has blessed this Bible-proclaiming and gospel-presenting museum (located just west of the Cincinnati Airport and less than a six-hour drive from downtown St. Louis). The ten days of fun include lots of exciting events for children and adults!  In addition, on Memorial Day itself (May 26), the museum will honor our military by offering free admission for both active and retired service people.

A Reason to Celebrate

God has given plenty of reasons for AiG to rejoice over the first year of the Creation Museum.  Attendance far exceeded expectations. Originally, they projected that 250,000 would visit the museum, however, as of early April this year, about 360,000 people have already visited the museum and grounds and the museum hasn’t even reached its one-year anniversary!  In addition, the world’s media have converged on this high-tech center that uses animatronics, a planetarium, a special effects theater, an incredible number of exhibits, a spectacular botanical gardens and a whole lot more that shows that the Bible can be trusted from its very first verse.

The museum staff rejoices even more in the testimonies they’ve received of changed lives, strengthened faith, and renewed enthusiasm and courage for sharing the good news of Christ.

A Personal Testimony

My wife and I visited the museum last September and I’ve got to tell you, we were overwhelmed. It is one of the most God centered, incredibly interesting, educational, and beautiful museums we have ever seen.
The museum was designed by a former Universal Studios exhibit director and is a state-of-the-art facility that brings the pages of the Bible to life. It’s truly a fully engaging, sensory experience for the entire family with tons of exhibits, murals, realistic scenery, computer-generated visual effects, life-sized people and dinosaurs, a special-effects theater complete with misty sea breezes and rumbling seats, a wonderful restaurant, a terrific gift shop/bookstore and a botanical garden that will knock your socks off. It’s a museum that everyone in your family will enjoy and remember for the rest of their lives. Believe me, I’ve been to a lot of museums and there’s nothing like it on the face of the Earth.

I have to warn you though, a visit to the museum is not a one-day affair. Make sure you plan on spending an absolute minimum of two days, if not three days, touring it. And don’t forget to take a camera.

Although visiting the Creation Museum was our primary objective, my wife and I did manage to visit several attractions in Cincinnati as well during our stay. The Newport Aquarium, Newport on the Levee, Cincinnati Museum Center, and Purple People Bridge were all very interesting and fun sites to visit. On our way home we also visited the Kentucky Horse Park near Lexington and Shaker Village in Harrodsburg, Kentucky. At the risk of sounding like a tourist guide, there’s a lot to see and do for the entire family in Cincinnati and in Kentucky (which is a beautiful state) in addition to visiting the Creation Museum.

Our May 2007 issue centered on the grand opening of the museum and had more in-depth descriptions of the various exhibits and highlights of the museum itself. We also had two pages of information regarding family friendly places to visit in Cincinnati and the surrounding area. Our May 2007 issue is archived on our website at www.metrovoice.net. Anyone interested in planning a trip might want to go to our website and read that issue. When you get to our website you’ll see a column on the left hand side of the front page that says “Past Issues.”  Click on “2007” and that will take you to all of our 2007 issues. Just click on “May 2007” and you’ll find all the articles regarding the Creation Museum and Cincinnati. I would also suggest visiting the museum’s website at www.CreationMuseum.org and www.CincinnatiUSA.com. The museum’s website will give you their times of operation, costs and lots more.

Retreat Packages

This year the museum is offering special ‘group retreat packages’. Packages include a Friday night stay in a quality hotel (there are several to choose from within a few miles of the museum), admission to both the museum and Stargazer’s Planetarium, breakfast and lunch on Saturday, and attendance to four sessions by museum speakers. These group packages are ideal for church groups, Christian school or homeschooling groups, Sunday school classes, seniors – you name it. If you’re looking for an unforgettable getaway for your group, this is it!  It’s like a creation mini-conference just for your group. You’ll need to call (888) 582-4253 ext. 355 to book your retreat.

End Note...

In closing, I’d just like to congratulate everyone at AiG and the Creation Museum for doing what they’ve done in putting together a truly Christ honoring facility. I’d also like to thank each and every person who contributed financially and those who contributed their time and talents to making the Creation Museum possible. My sincere prayer is that the museum will be used by the Holy Spirit to open the eyes of the unsaved and bring more and more people to His Son, our Lord and Savior, the Creator of the heavens and the Earth, Christ Jesus.
