MRL Pro-Life
Action Day Set for
March 11th
at Missouri Capitol
By Jim Day
Missouri Right to Life (MRL), the state's oldest
and largest grassroots pro-life organization, is again sponsoring a pro-life
action day during the upcoming legislative session. This activity is
an integral part of
MRL's
mission to educate citizens and their representatives on legislation to promote
the sanctity of human life in Missouri. ”Good legislation protects every
unborn child and every expectant mother,” according to Pam Fichter, the organization's
state president.
Throughout MRL's 35-year history, the
organization has sought to activate its state-wide grassroots network to not
only encourage passage of such legislation, but also, through its Political
Action Committee, elect candidates committed to supporting pro-life issues if
elected.
This year, MRL is sponsoring a Pro-Life
Action Day on Tuesday, March 11, at the state capitol. Members and others
committed to life issues are asked to personally call on their elected representatives
and express their support for proposed pro-life legislation.
MRL'S priority legislation for 2008 are
bills that would expand the Woman’s Right to Know statute by requiring
mandatory ultrasounds before an abortion, informing mothers that babies feel
pain during an abortion, and protecting women from coerced abortions.
They are also working on legislation that would prevent research
creating human and animal hybrids (Chimeras), and promoting a complete ban on
all human cloning in Missouri. According to Fichter, this is one of the most
important legislative packages in state history. “This legislation has an
excellent chance of passing, especially if our legislators are contacted by
Missouri voters. This is an election year we need to let our voices be
heard,” said Fichter.
Participants are asked to sign in at the
Third Floor Rotunda at 10 a.m. and personally call on their representatives and
senators between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. MRL representatives will be available
throughout the day with information, help, and answers to any questions you may
have. All attendees are asked to wear red.
“This is an exciting and profoundly important
time for the pro-life movement in Missouri. It's critical during this
election year to let our representatives hear your support for pro-life legislation,”
said Pam Fichter, President of Missouri Right to Life.
