May 7th PRC Walk4Life

Every year as Spring approaches, I begin to look forward to the Walk4Life
sponsored by the Pregnancy Resource Centers of Greater St. Louis (PRC).
There is a certain
ritual of Spring that has become as predictable as
the budding of leaves. Every year,
I ask my wife when the Walk will take place.
And every 
year,
she patiently reminds me that the Walk is ALWAYS the Saturday of Mother’s
Day weekend! Well, this year I am going to surprise her. I have already marked Saturday, May 7th on my
2005 calendar as the date for the Walk4Life.
I won’t miss this
one, because it promises to be even bigger and better than last year’s Walk,
which was itself a huge success. Last
year, 250 walkers obtained sponsors willing to contribute to PRC. The live music expanded to last the entire
morning and grilled hot dogs, chips and soda helped contribute to the festive
atmosphere. Walk4Life 2004 raised
$66,000 for PRC’s many ministry outreaches.
This year we hope
to have 1,000 walkers that will each help to raise a total of $250,000 for
PRC. This is the most inter-active event
of the year’s fund raising goal of $1.5 million. If you were at the Walk last
year, you’re probably wondering how we plan to accommodate that many walkers,
or the cars that bring them to Creve Coeur Park? This year, in anticipation of many more
walkers and their friends, we have reserved the Tremayne
Shelter at Creve Coeur Park. This larger
shelter features permanent restrooms and larger parking lots. In addition, we plan to have many more
volunteers available to assist walkers and to help prepare and sell refreshments.
Our challenge to each of you is this: Let’s see if enough of you will walk at
this year’s event to make even this “bigger and better shelter” too small for
us! Then let’s see what God will do to
provide an even bigger and better place for us next year!
If you have never
participated in the Walk4Life, you may be wondering how this all works. Each person who would like to participate in
the Walk4Life simply obtains a pledge form by contacting PRC’s
Administrative office at (314) 783-3040 x227 and then contacts friends, neighbors,
co-workers or relatives to ask if 
they
would be willing to sponsor the walker by committing to make a contribution
to PRC. (Pledge forms may also be obtained at many area churches and if your
church doesn’t have any call us and we will be glad to have a supply delivered.)
The contribution can be as small as $5, or can be as large as the sponsor
wishes. As a walker you are acting as an ambassador
for PRC, in some cases introducing people who have no knowledge of the organization
to the many ways that PRC serves the community.
PRC is a Christ-centered,
biblically-based, ministry that defends unborn children from abortion by
supporting and encouraging families affected by pregnancy. The PRC “Well WomanSM
Resource Centers” offer options in counseling, pregnancy testing and educational
ultrasounds. PRC also has the Best ChoiceSM Abstinence Education Programs that are
offered in middle schools, high schools and to church youth groups. PRC offers Pregnancy LossSM
Support Programs, as well as the Mentoring MenSM
Program.
We need your
help! If you have previously
participated in the Walk4Life, please commit to participate again, and to
encourage several of your friends to join you.
If you have never participated before, then we ask you to commit right
now to become a walker, to begin seeking sponsors, and to encourage your
friends to join you as walkers.
We are planning now
for the biggest Walk ever! Please join
us in taking steps to save lives. Mark
your calendars now. Let’s see, what is
that date again? Oh! Mother’s Day Weekend! How could I forget?
