What Makes a Good Christian School
By Dan Smithwick
|
The Christian school movement in America is roughly 40
years old. In the late 60’s and early 70’s many parents
and churches began the process
of starting Christian schools. This was due largely to many changes in the
public school system that caused red flags to alert parents. Among the troubling changes in public schools
(better called government schools) were removal of prayer in classrooms,
removal of the Ten Commandments
from hallways and classrooms, restriction of teacher’s displaying
Christian objects (including a copy of the Bible)
in their classroom, elimination of prayer before athletic events,
a ban on Bible studies on school premises and even
prevention of Christian students from sharing their faith with
other students. In a few
cases, parents were able to get some of these liberties reinstated
under the Equal Access laws but the overall trend was the successful
elimination of any practice that referenced Christianity in a
traditional sense.

Missourians Need to Support These Bills!
Stopping Censorship & Encouraging Abstinence
in Missouri Schools
By State Representative Cynthia
Davis
|
HB
35 – Stopping Censorship
Censorship
is bad. One of the
reasons we have
such a great country is because people are free to express
ideas and find solutions to common problems.
Unfortunately, some people who have adopted the theory
of evolution do not want our children exposed to any other
ideas. They want
to win this controversy by default.
House bill 35 is designed to frame
the controversy. The
bill is only three sentences long and reads like this: “All biology textbooks sold to the public
schools of the State of Missouri shall have one or more
chapters containing a critical analysis of origins. The
chapters shall convey the distinction between data and testable
theories of science and philosophical claims that are made
in the name of science. Where topics are taught that may
generate controversy, such as biological evolution, the
curriculum should help students to understand the full range
of scientific views that exist, why such topics may generate
controversy, and how scientific discoveries can profoundly
affect society.”

PRC Spring Banquet Set for March 10th
By Keith Thorn
At the Pregnancy Resource Centers of Greater St. Louis
(PRC) we praise the Lord for the tremendous growth we saw in 2004!
The number of first time clients increased by 92% and
ultrasounds offered increased to approximately 500, showing an increase
of 132%! PRC saw exceptional growth in all service areas
last year. While
the number of clients served through PRC has increased dramatically,
financial support has yet to catch up to the levels needed to
continue these exceptional growth numbers. PRC relies on the support
of churches and individual donors just like you to reach thousands
of young mothers, fathers, and teens with truth and hope.
You can help PRC
extend its reach across the metro St. Louis region by: Bringing
a friend to the PRC Annual Spring Banquet March 10th, committing to pray for the ministry of PRC, prayerfully considering a special
financial gift to PRC, and prayerfully considering volunteer service
with PRC.
