St. Louis MetroVoice 2004 Missouri Federal Level
Questionnaire Candidate Responses

It is extremely important that you compare the candidates' responses to the right questionnaire. There are two different (yet similar) questionnaires; one for the Missouri Federal level candidates and one for Missouri State level candidates. To see whether or not you agree with the candidate who is vying for your vote, you will need to compare his or her answers to the appropriate questionnaire. We recommend that you first list the answers of your favorite candidate/s on a separate piece of paper then go to the appropriate questionnaire and compare their answers. This will save you the time and effort of having to toggle back and forth between the questionnaire and your candidates' answers.

The following is the list of topics which Missouri & Illinois
FEDERAL LEVEL candidates were asked to address:
1. Terrorism & National Security
2. Education
3. Second Amendment
4. Legislative Philosophy
5. Abortion
6. Taxation
7. The U.S. Constitution
8. Global Governance
9. Health Care
10. Discrimination

*1. Wrote in: "We can and will, consistent with the Constitution, take every step necessary to ensure that our country is protected from terrorist attacks."
*2. Wrote in: "My No Child Left Behind law holds schools accountable for results so that every child will receive a high-quality education."
*3. Wrote in: "I believe that the Second Amendment secures an individual right to keep and bear arms. I support the use of firearms for sporting, recreational, and home defense purposes. The best way to deter violence committed with guns is to vigorously prosecute the criminal misuse of guns, which my Administration is doing."
*4. Wrote in: "I want to use government to empower people to make decisions for themselves, instead of government making decisions for them."
*5. Wrote in: "I believe that every child should be welcomed in life and protected in law, so I support the purposes of the Human Life Amendment, except in cases of rape, incest, or to save the life of the mother. I signed the ban on partial-birth abortions."
*6. Wrote in: "I support tax reform that will make the tax code simpler, fairer, and more pro-growth. I am pleased that Congress has extended the family tax cuts I signed into law in 2003 and will continue to work to make all my tax cuts permanent."
*7. Wrote in: "I will appoint judges to the Federal bench who will strictly interpret the Constitution."
*8. Wrote in: "Protecting the American people and our homeland is my most important job and responsibility as President. I am all for united action and I frequently consult with other world leaders, yet America must never outsource our national security decisions to the leaders of other countries."
*9. Wrote in: "I want more individuals and their families to control their own health care. We are making health care more affordable and accessible for all Americans through a comprehensive approach, which includes enacting Medicare prescription drug coverage, Associated Health Plans (AHPs), Health Savings Accounts (HSAs), tax credits for health insurance, expanding community health centers, and health IT. And, I will continue to push for medical liability reform to reduce the number of frivolous lawsuits that are driving up health care costs."
*10. Wrote in: "I support affirmative access, which aggressively reaches out to minorities, that is inclusive of all races, provides equal opportunity, and protects diversity. I do not support racial quotas, preferences, or set-asides, which perpetuate divisions in society and can lead people to question the accomplishments of successful minorities."
