Strongly urge every voting citizen in
Missouri to protect traditional marriage in Missouri by:
VOTING “YES”
August 3rd, 2004
on
CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT #2
Official Ballot Title
(What you
will see in the voting booth.)
Shall the Missouri Constitution be amended so that to
be valid and recognized in this state, a marriage shall exist only between a
man and a woman?
Estimated fiscal impact
of this proposed measure to state & local governments is $0.
WHY DO WE NEED THIS CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT?
Missouri
has a law against homosexual marriage already, but that law could be easily
attacked and thrown out by the courts.
This Constitutional Amendment will protect marriage from homosexual
activists who only need to find one judge to agree that the institution of
marriage should cover any other group or set of people who want to use the
institution of marriage to justify or make their lifestyle more acceptable to
society.
In over
thirty states homosexual activists have used ‘judicial venue shopping’ as an
effective tool to challenge laws against homosexual acts, including
marriage! Our state as
well as almost forty others have lost our laws against homosexual sodomy
when judges ruled to override state statutes! Today, homosexuals are working
very hard to raise money from national groups, and campaigning to defeat
traditional marriage!
In the Missouri Legislature it
would take a minimum of 82 members of the House agreeing with 18 or more
Senators, who together could successfully navigate the parliamentary procedures
of the Missouri General Assembly to advance homosexual marriage in our
state. (A majority of both bodies.)
In the state court system only one
out of 322 judges are needed to do the same thing. Such a court case would have to go through at
least one, or more, Appellate Judges whose decision either way would then go to
the State Supreme Court. This is why
every state facing this battle was drug into it by the courts.
The pivotal question hinges on who
sits on the Supreme Court? What would 4
out of 7 members of the high court do?
Since its establishment in 1820, Missouri’s Supreme Court has been both
politically and socially conservative – until now! For over 180 years our state has maintained a
judicially restrained court – up until two years ago!
With the last appointment made to
the Supreme Court by Governor Bob Holden (his
second appointee) the court swung to a liberal domination for the first
time in Missouri’s history. Twelve years
of liberal antics from the Carnahan and Holden administrations has changed
Missouri for generations to come!
DID YOUR REPRESENTATIVE VOTE TO PROTECT MARRIAGE?
SJR 29 was the last bill passed in
the 2004 Missouri General Assemble, placing Constitutional Amendment 2 on the
statewide ballot. The final vote was taken only minutes before the end of the
session.
In a failed effort to stop this
Marriage Protection Amendment from passing, opponents staged a procedural
debate intended to ‘run out the clock’ and keep the bill from receiving a final
vote. Supporters of Amendment 2 had to
“Call the Previous Question.”
This often overlooked 90-63 vote
allowed the Marriage Protection Amendment to move forward and pass.
After clearing the Previous
Question vote, SJR 29 was “Truly Agreed To and Finally
Passed” by a vote of 130-26.
