Marriage – God’s Way or the Gay Way?
Part
2
What will homosexual marriage do to the
society in general and where could it lead our nation?
If same sex-marriage is approved it could
open the door for other types of deviant behavior. Approval of same-sex
marriage can lead to polygamy and other alternatives between men, women,
children, and even animals. So the issue is more than just should same-sex
couples be able to marry, it’s about the family!
The family is the bedrock of our society. It
is the primary institution by which we raise children. It produces social,
economic and health benefits for children, adults, and the society in general.
The family and marriage brings stability to our society. We must protect the
family and traditional marriage! The approval of same-sex marriage could cause
chaos in our nation.
What about the legal viewpoint and
constitutional issues regarding same-sex marriage? What are arguments that
homosexual’s usually use regarding obtaining approval of same-sex
marriage?
The Civil Rights Argument
They
say that they are entitled to same-sex marriage because it is their civil
right. They say, “It’s unfair!” But, by definition it isn’t. A person has the
right to do what others are legally entitled to do. They must be denied a legal
right. At the present time, same-sex couples have no legal right, except in MA.
This first argument doesn’t exist.
The Due Process Argument
Due
process involves fundamental rights that are deeply rooted in tradition and
history. Homosexual marriage is not
deeply rooted in tradition or history. This second argument doesn’t work
either.
The Equal Protection Under
the Law Argument
The
key words here are ‘under the law.’ Again, there is no law that grants them protection.
This argument doesn’t hold up either.
Many people are not aware that people who
live together, but are not married (heterosexual couples also do this), may, by
law, own property together, pass on property, establish their partner as the
Durable Power of Attorney, and the like. Tell people that this is possible
without same-sex marriage.
Although both lawyers I was interviewing
believe the law is clear, they both also agreed that liberal judges may still
approve same-sex marriage. So, beyond relying on the law, what can we do? Pray
fervently for God’s intervention and direction! Encourage Christians to
exercise their civil rights and voice their opposition to gay marriage!
Encourage pastors and church leaders to speak out about this issue to church
members, Representatives, Senators, and the general public. Encourage lay
people to become involved in this battle for the family. On August 3rd go to
the polls in
Economic Costs
If same-sex marriage is allowed, you can
rest assured that the cost of just about every item or service you purchase
will increase because of the demands that will arise to provide health
insurance and other benefits to this new group of spouses and dependents. The
increase in Social Security costs and taxes alone will be in the hundreds of
millions of dollars. States will be forced to provide some or all of the same benefits
presently provided to heterosexual married couples for same-sex couples in
their employment. Again, taxes will have to be raised to cover these costs. Aside
from the staggering cost to government, there will also be the costs to schools
which will need to revise textbooks to use appropriate language regarding
same-sex couples.
Affecting the Church
But, what about the
Church? How will it be affected? The family has been used by the Lord to
share the Gospel and God’s Word since the beginning of time. Parents and
grandparents are commanded to pass on their faith to the next generations! They tell children the praiseworthy deeds of
the Lord. “Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will
not turn from it.” (Prov.
22:6) “And these words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your
heart; and you shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk to them
when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down
and when you rise up. And you shall bind them as a sign on your hand and write
them on the door post of your house.” (Deut.
6:6-8) “We will not hide them from their children, we will tell the next
generation the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, His power, and the wonders He
has done.” (Ps. 78:4) “...and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings
which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith
which is in Christ Jesus.” (2 Tim.
3:15) “...like newborn babes, long for the pure milk of the word, that by it
you may grow in respect to salvation.” (1
Peter 2:2) “I am mindful of the sincere faith within you, which first dwelt
in your grandmother Lois, and your mother Eunice, and I am sure that it is in
you as well.” (2 Tim. 1:5) We are to
allow the Word of God to be our light and path…same-sex marriage will make
sharing our faith, from a biblical perspective, much more difficult.
As we deal with this topic, we recognize
that we don’t know what the future holds, but, thankfully, we do know Who holds the future.
David Siscel
concluded the program by saying, “Some people that are opposed to same-sex
marriage have stated that allowing same-sex marriage would put us on a slippery
slope. It’s not a slope. It’s a cliff! We must unite to do everything we can to
keep us from walking off the cliff!”
