Former Chief Justice Roy Moore
to be Honored in St. Louis May 18th

By Jim Day

Former Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court, Roy Moore, along with Mrs. Mary Maschmeier, a prominent St. Louis area pro-life leader and founder of Defenders of Life, have been named the 2004 recipients of the National Coalition to Restore the Constitution’s (NCRC) prestigious Samuel Adams Sons of Liberty Award. Both Judge Moore and Mrs. Maschmeier will be honored at a private reception hosted by the NCRC on May 18th from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the St. Louis Room of the Busch Student Center at St. Louis University in mid-town St. Louis.

Judge Moore has been in the national spotlight for several years for his uncompromising stand in defense of religious liberty and refusal to violate his oath to uphold the Constitution.  In what many have characterized as a blatant mockery of

justice, Moore was removed from his elected position as Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court last summer when he refused to comply with an unconstitutional U.S. District Court ruling. The ruling had ordered him to remove a granite monument inscribed with the Ten Commandments from Alabama’s state judicial building which he had placed there in 2001. Moore, well within the parameters of his duties and his constitutional rights, came under attack by the ACLU who claimed that the monument was a violation of church-state separation, which eventually led to the District Court’s involvement.

For those unfamiliar with the NCRC, last November they held their first rally in the rotunda of the Missouri State Capitol with over 1,000 citizens in attendance.  The rally, entitled the Ten Commandments Faith & Freedom Petition Rally, was one of 46 similar rallies which were held at state capitols around the nation. According to reports received from coordinators of other rallies, Missouri’s rally was the largest followed by Oklahoma with an estimated 600 to 700 people in attendance.

Headquartered here in St. Louis, one of the NCRC’s primary objectives is to unite citizens across the nation to hold their elected officials to their oaths of office. According to Bob Wells, Executive Director of the NCRC, “Our nation is in the throes of a crisis of constitutional infidelity. The vast majority of our elected and appointed representatives, at every level of government, have demonstrated that they are unwilling to abide by existing constitutional restraints and instead are systematically and routinely violating their oath by passing, enforcing and upholding a myriad of unconstitutional laws, regulations and judicial decrees that strip Americans of their most fundamental God-given rights.”

November’s rally served not just to introduce the organization to the nation but to unite citizens into a single voice to put a stop to the erosion of our religious liberties and freedoms by an activist judiciary.

Organizations co-hosting the reception with the NCRC honoring Judge Moore and Mrs. Maschmeier include, Christian Home Educators Fellowship, the Constitution Party of Missouri, the Constitution Party of Illinois, Concerned Women for America of Missouri, Liberty Bell Press, Missouri First, the Positive Action Coalition and the St. Louis MetroVoice

Those interested in attending the reception must make advance reservation by contacting the NCRC at (636) 861-7052 or through their website at www.restoretheconstitution.org.

Public Meeting Follows Reception

Immediately following the awards reception, both Moore and Michael Peroutka, who is seeking the presidential nomination of the Constitution Party, will speak at a 7:30 p.m. public meeting hosted by the Constitution Party of Missouri in the ballroom of the Busch Student Center

This will be the first opportunity for citizens of Missouri, Illinois and surrounding states to meet Peroutka, a Maryland lawyer, whose campaign theme is to “Honor God, Defend the Family and Restore the Republic.”  Peroutka founded the Institute on the Constitution, a nationwide program that teaches the principles articulated within the Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution.

Tickets for the Constitution Party public meeting are $10 per person and may be purchased by calling (636) 349-3243 or on-line at www.constitutionpartymo.com.
