Conference on Biblical Discernment

On April 22-24, Parker Road Baptist Church, in Florissant, MO, will serve as host for an important national conference - the St. Louis Conference on Biblical Discernment.

The conference is being sponsored by Personal Freedom Outreach (PFO) which is an apologetic and counter‑cult ministry headquartered here in St. Louis.  For those unfamiliar with PFO, PFO is an interdenominational organization that was formed in 1975 to educate Christians about the dangers of religious cults, teach them how to use the Gospel of Jesus Christ to reach members of those cults, and warn Christians of unbiblical teachings within the Church itself.

The April 22-24 conference will present a tremendous opportunity to learn under nationally recognized experts in the field of cults and apologetics. This year’s conference speakers will include: Dr. Norman Geisler, author of over 60 books, teacher for nearly 40 years and President of Southern Evangelical Seminary in Charlotte, NC; Dr. Ron Rhodes, author, radio talk show guest and President of Reasoning from the Scriptures Ministries; Dr. Ronald Nash, author and philosophy professor at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky.; Rev. Richard Fisher, senior researcher and writer for PFO’s The Quarterly Journal and pastor of Laurelton Park Baptist Church for over 30 years; and Mr. Ralph Muncaster, a former skeptic of the Bible, author and founder of Strong Basis to Believe Ministry.  In addition to these outstanding teachers there will be other lecturers as well.

Those attending the conference will also have an opportunity to attend six different workshops from a list of some 42 planned for the event. These multiple workshops will cover the prominent cults of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Mormons and others, along with Charismatic Extremism, the New Age Movement, Shepherding and Aberrational Groups, Satanism and the Occult, World Religions, plus discernment, counseling and theological issues. Each of the workshops has been designed to equip Christians with the knowledge of how to effectively respond to the various counterfeit gospels and subtle heresies presently facing the Church.

In comparison to the cost of attending other conferences, the St. Louis Conference on Biblical Discernment is very minimal.  The entire three days of meetings is only $60 for pre‑registration before March 21, and $75 on or after March 22 through on-site registration time. (Registering before the conference is highly recommended.)  The conference also offers a reduced rate for pastors, full-time Bible school students and faculty.  A limited number of reservations for a banquet on Thursday evening are also being accepted at a cost of $15.

This will be an event which will enhance both a minister’s and layman’s ministry alike.  It’s an excellent opportunity to learn how to equip oneself against false teachers and learn to discern!
