Classical
Christian Education Reading List
Compiled by David J. Vaughan
One
of the fastest growing movements in Christian education is the field of
Classical education. Concisely,
classical education focuses on the traditional Trivium of Latin, Logic and
Rhetoric. It just so happens that the
Classical approach was the one used for centuries in the West, and thus helped
to build the legacy of Western art, science and literature. Why it’s important and how it works can be
learned from the following books.
- The
Lost Tools of Learning: Sayers*
- The
Abolition of Man: Lewis
- The
Case for Classical Christian Education: Wilson*
- Classical
Education and the Home
School: Wilson, et. al.*
- The
Well-Trained Mind: Wise and Bauer
- Norms
and Nobility: Hicks
- The
Classical Tradition: Highet
- The
Crisis of Western Education: Dawson
- Religion
and the Rise of Western Culture: Dawson
- Train
Up a Child: Barclay*
- Of
the Education of Children: Montaigne
- On
the Education of Boys: Plutarch
- Institutio Oratoria:
Quintilian
