Calvary Church in St. Peters Hosts

Worldview Weekend October 10-11

By Jim Day

A worldview is the lenses, glasses, framework or grid through which you look at the world and every issue and aspect of life. In America, the two predominant worldviews are either a secular humanist worldview or a biblical Christian worldview. Your worldview is the basis of your ideas and values which form the foundation of your conduct.

On Friday, October 10th and Saturday, October 11th, Calvary Church, 3998 Mid Rivers Mall Dr. in St. Peters, MO will host the second annual Worldview Weekend Conference to be held in St. Louis -- one of the most informative and important conferences you and your children could hope to attend. The conference, entitled Capturing Certain Truth in Uncertain Times is part of the nation-wide Worldview Weekends of America series of conferences held throughout the United States by the American Family Policy Institute (AFPI). These conferences are co-sponsored by the Bott Radio Network, the American Family Association, World Magazine, Summit Ministries, Josh McDowell’s Beyond Belief Campaign and, for the St. Louis conference, the St. Louis MetroVoice.

Last year, Twin Oaks Presbyterian Church hosted the first ever Worldview Weekend for the St. Louis area which was rapidly sold out and proved to be an incredible success. Featured speakers included: Ken Ham, founder of Answers in Genesis; Washington Time Columnist and author, David Limbaugh; Bob Cornuke, President of Bible Archaeology Research; Kerby Anderson, President of Probe Ministries; the former pastor of Twin Oaks Presbyterian Church, the late Rodney Storz, and Christian comedians Rick & Mick Vigneulle.

According to Brannon Howse, President of the AFPI and Director of Worldview Weekends of America, a report by the Nehemiah Institute revealed the great need for Worldview Weekends due to the incredible number adults and teenagers who lack a true biblical worldview. Most Christians may know what they believe, but very few know why they believe what they do or have the knowledge and understanding to defend their biblical beliefs. The upcoming Worldview Weekend Conference, Capturing Certain Truth in Uncertain Times, is a must attend event which will not only strengthen you and your children's walk with the Lord, but will equip you with the knowledge necessary to defend your faith and beliefs in today’s society.

This year’s list of speakers includes:

David Barton who is President of Wallbuilders (www.wallbuilders.com) and one of America's most sought after convention speakers for his knowledge on the Christian heritage of the founding of our nation. Barton, a best selling author and collector of original documents by the founding fathers of our nation, has been involved in several cases before the US Supreme Court and has testified before numerous state legislatures.

David Noeble who is the President of Summit Ministries (www.summit.org), a regular guest on Focus on the Family and author of Understanding the Times and Clergy in the Classroom.

Kerby Anderson who is President of Probe Ministries (www.probe.org), guest host of Point of View and Open Line radio talk shows and author of numerous books including his most recent, Moral Dilemmas, written at the request of Chuck Swindoll.

Sean McDowell who is an author, conference speaker, and son of Josh McDowell. Sean has compiled a book with his father called The Youth Ministry Handbook and is currently helping to update The Resurrection Factor, a book which give a historical defense of the resurrection of Christ.

Scott Lindsey who is the Ministry Relations Director of Logos Research Systems and teaches at over 50 plus conferences a year around the country on how to use technology for Bible study. Scott has personally trained and worked with the ministries of Josh McDowell, the late Bill Bright, John MacArthur, Jack Hayford, RC Sproul, Kay Arthur, Dennis Rainey and many other well known Christian leaders.

JJ Jasper who is a Christian comedian and storyteller, on-air AM radio personality with American Family Radio and author of Moses was a Basket Case.

The conference starts on Friday evening with late registration beginning at 5:45 p.m. and opening ceremonies beginning at 6:45 p.m.  The Friday evening conference will conclude at 10:15 p.m. On Saturday, the conference resumes at 8:30 a.m. and concludes at 4:30 p.m.  The following is the complete schedule for the conference along with the topics that will be covered by the various speakers.  The recommended age of attendance is age 11 to adult.

The Success of a Biblical Worldview with David Barton

Over the past two generations, concerted efforts have been made to relegate Christians to just a few limited areas of society. Previous generations however, understood the biblical teaching that Christians should be involved in every aspect of their culture. The Declaration and the Constitution: Their Christian Roots with Kerby Anderson.

Many Americans are unaware of the writings and documents that preceded our Declaration of Independence and Constitution and the influence of biblical ideas upon the writing of those documents. What Christian principles were part of the Declaration of Independence? How did Christian ideas form the basis of our Constitution? We will look specifically at the issues of the Constitution and human nature, the Constitution and majority tyranny, and the Constitution and governmental tyranny. In each case, we will find that godly men provided solutions such as popular sovereignty, balance of powers, and checks and balances. The influence of the Bible on the Constitution was profound. The writers from the Founding Era quoted from the Bible 34 percent of the time. Even more interesting was that about three-fourths of all references to the Bible came from reprinted sermons from that era.

Certain Truth in Uncertain Times with Sean McDowell

September 11, 2001, the Iraq war, North Korea, the threat of terrorists, the ninth circuit rules against students saying the words, “under God” in the pledge of Allegiance…and the list goes on. We are living in uncertain times. We are living in a post-Christian America where truth is relative and created; not discovered. Individuals that have firm biblical convictions are considered to be intolerant bigots that have no right to make moral judgments in regard to an individual's conduct, actions or lifestyle in light of what God call’s right and wrong. Sean will answer such questions as, "How do we know there is truth? Why is pluralism a lie? How should we respond to a post-modern, post-Christian culture? How can we keep our kids, friends and family members from unknowingly accepting the false worldview of this postmodern culture and instead choose the truth of Jesus Christ?"

Never Read a Bible Verse: The Key to Handling God’s Word Accurately with Sean McDowell

We value the Bible highly, in fact, we consider the Bible to be like a love-letter from God, a road map for the journey of life. But we often have odd and dangerous ways of using it. In this seminar Sean will tackle the two core problems that must be overcome if we are to accurately understand and apply God’s Word to our lives.

Going to College Without Going Astray with Kerby Anderson

Seventy-five percent of students from Christian homes deny their faith before they graduate from college. A recent national study reveals that the overwhelming majority of professors at our nation’s colleges are liberal. Members of America’s Humanist Association openly wrote about the need to use the position of “professor” to challenge the biblical worldview of America’s young people that had been instilled into them by their parents and church. Kerby will teach you powerful arguments in defense of absolute truth. Learn how to contend for your faith without embarrassment and with the certainty it is truth. Drawing from examples in pop culture and the media, Kerby will show you the prevailing worldview that is vying for your heart and soul.
