Even a cursory review of economic
history would reveal that current economic conditions for most of the developed
world have not been as precarious in the past as they are today. Most of the worlds’ nations have adopted debt
based economic systems along with debt based monetary systems. The booms and
busts associated with such systems have become more and more pronounced with
each business cycle. As a result, fortunes have been made and lost with ordinary
citizens often seeing much of what they have worked a lifetime to accumulate
ending up disappearing almost overnight. Confusion is now rampant, as many
bought the lie of the last decade that, "The old laws of economics have
been repealed" and "We are now experiencing the new economy that
promises unbridled prosperity."
What the bankers and Wall Street
forgot to mention was that this "Greatest economy in fifty years" has
been (and still is) financed on borrowed money.
It was, in fact, John Maynard Keynes, the architect of our current
economic system, who
confirmed in his 1920 book, The Economic Consequences of the Peace, that our system is nothing less than a carefully laid out plan to fleece the American people of their hard earned money.
Right now we see the beginnings of a serious recession and general slowdown of economic activity which is causing real pain to individuals and families. This economic malaise often times forces smoldering personal issues to explode, revealing severe dysfunction in many personal lives. Unfortunately, many turn to government as the solution to the massive problems facing our society. Many in the Church have even turned to government to solve problems that have spiritual roots.
