Our Lady's Inn Fund Raising
Dinner Auction November 8
On Friday, November 8th, Our Lady’s Inn will host its annual Dinner/Auction entitled "The Harvest" at the Royale Orleans Banquet Hall, which is located at 2801 Telegraph Road in South County. This year's banquet will feature a reception and silent auction beginning at 6:30 p.m. with an elegant buffet dinner starting at 7:30 p.m. and an oral auction following dessert. Jim Deken will serve as emcee/auctioneer with special guest Dan Buck. Cost to attend is $50 per person.
For more than twenty years, Our Lady’s Inn, located at 4223 South Compton Ave. in South St. Louis City, has served as a homeless shelter for pregnant women and their children. During this time more than 2,800 babies have been given the gift of life. While the women stay at Our Lady’s Inn they receive counseling, prenatal care, clothing, nutritious meals, spiritual guidance and case management. They also receive referrals for employment, education and housing.
Presently, Our Lady's Inn is in the final stages of a capital campaign to renovate a building within walking distance of their present facility to provide transitional housing for women after they leave the shelter. When completed, the building will have six-one bedroom units available to a mother and her child, plus a unit for a live-in staff person. This will be a one-year program to help these young moms as they continue on their road to independence. "We feel this will make a significant difference in breaking the homeless cycle," stated Gloria Lee, Executive Director of Our Lady's Inn. Women served at the Inn range in age from 18 years old and up.
