The Revelation is One Musical You Don't Want to Miss!

  By Harold Hendrick
A totally marvelous experience! John (St. Charles Christian High School Headmaster) and Sue (Christian composer) Smith and Ed and Janet Watkins invited Joan and I to Cardinal Hall-of-Famer Lou and Jacque Brock's home in St. Charles to well, we didn't know exactly what. It proved to be an unforgettable evening for the 30 or so guests.
The production was billed: "Baseball Great Hall of Famer Lou Brock and The Lou & Jacqueline A. Brock Ministry Presents 'THE REVELATION.'"
What composer-performer Michael O'Hara and the singing troupe-all from our St. Louis region-gave us was an exhilarating presentation of lively, quality music that created a state of spiritual euphoria! It left us on a "high," the good kind. Michael, a four-time Grammy Nominee, is co-composer and lead singer. He testifies of having repented of his sinful life style four years ago and is now focusing his talents in the service of Jesus.
The setting of "THE REVELATION" is that of John the Beloved on the Isle of Patmos. The different scenes and selections are based upon the kind of visions that John might have had during his exile. Always moving and dramatic, musically it reminded me of the musical Godspell-but with a lot more praising of God, with a very high level of spotlighting Jesus and honoring Him. Michael sings the role of John.
Janet Watkins for years was the musical talent coordinator for Six Flags and the head of the St. Charles High School music department. When she first heard "THE REVELATION," she was so moved that she asked if she could try out. Janet, the only non-African-American in the cast that evening, powerfully sings the role of the woman with the "issue of blood" who was healed by Jesus.
After the presentation, I saw Pastor Phil Hunter, calendar in hand, booking what he had just experienced for his West County Community Church. Jack and Carol Buck were among the responsive group of awed guests. Sandy Brown and Hal Herwick, Jr. of Christian music radio, and their spouses, were also taking it all in.
Coming to Powel Hall May 19. "THE REVELATION" has the capacity of penetrating the culture, not entirely different and even akin to the way Handle's Messiah affected the secular culture in its beginning. The May 19 presentation at Powell Hall (home of the St. Louis Symphony) is an important opportunity for us to come together in supporting something very special.
A great response by the Christian community of St. Louis will indeed honor the Lord and likely propel "THE REVELATION" to presentations in secular venues throughout the country. The $25 tickets are available at the Powell Hall box office or by calling (314) 534-1700. For group rates call (636) 498-0455. We would be blessed to see you there.
