Kurt, Brenda Warner to Share Testimonies at CFD

  By Jim Day
Dust off your baseball glove and get ready to enjoy some spirit filled Christian entertainment, listen to some incredible testimonies and be blessed by the sight of a lot of happy children! Christian Family Day at Busch Stadium is rapidly approaching and now is the time to get your tickets to attend.
On Saturday, July 14, the Red Birds will face off against the Detroit Tigers in a 1:10 p.m. game in the 11th Annual Christian Family Day (CFD) at the ballpark event. Immediately following the game, contemporary Christian entertainer Al Denson will take to the stage to perform some of his best known songs honoring Christ. And, this year, those in attendance will be in for an extra special blessing when St. Louis Rams Quarterback, Kurt Warner and his wife, Brenda, give their testimonies along with several Cardinal baseball players. Larry Collette, CEO of Cass Bank and past chairman of the Billy Graham Crusade in St. Louis, will serve as this year's Honorary Chairman.
For those not familiar with Christian Family Day, CFD is the premier evangelical event of the year, which allows the secular world to experience Jesus and invite Him into their lives in a non-threatening manner. It also affords thousands of under-privileged children the opportunity to attend and experience the awesome power of God through praise, worship and testimonies of sports figures and Christian entertainers. Sports figures and men of faith who have given their testimonies in the past have included Dawson McAllister, Dave Dravecky, Gary Gaetti, Tim Burke, Tommy Herr, Darrell Porter, Mike Singletary, Lou Brock and Mike Easler. Entertainers who have participated have included such well-known artists as Todd Proctor, Chris Tomlin, Randy Mayfield, Joel Engle, Robert Burkhart and Phillips, Craig & Dean.
The real blessing of CFD, however, centers on the children. Thanks to those who purchase tickets, make outright tax-deductible contributions and corporate sponsors, some 3,500 of our areas neediest children will hopefully get to attend the game and hear the Gospel. Festivities for the kids will begin around 10:30 a.m. in Kiener Plaza where they will receive a Chick-Fil-A meal, beverage, ticket to the game and a whole lot of love. Last year, Cardinal pitcher, Andy Benes, along with Cardinal Care, purchased 3,000 drinks for the children inside the ballpark, which was an incredible blessing.
Of course, Christian Family Day would be nothing more than a dream without the support of its sponsors and the tireless work of hundreds of volunteers and the CFD committee.
This year corporate sponsors include Cass Bank Corporation, McArthur's Bakery, ProPrint, Frailey's Restaurants, Dierbergs Family Markets, Freddie's Market, Chick-Fil-A Restaurants, Tippin's Restaurants, Lemstone Books, Hamilton Jewelers, MetroVision Ministries, Dau Furniture and Home Furnishings, Cordell and Cordell, P.C., Attorney at Law, Bob R. Young, Mid Rivers Mortgage, Casey Electric Co., The Lumber Baseball Co., Christian radio station KSIV AM 1320/FM 91.5, and the St. Louis MetroVoice newspaper.
Coordinating the event and making sure everything goes according to schedule is the job of the CFD committee--a dedicated, Christ loving group who, year after year, donate their time and energies to make sure CFD is a success. The committee consists of founder and chairman, Judy Boen; Jo Beaman who handles obtaining the sponsors and fund raising; treasurer, Chuck Smallwood; secretary, Cathy Bononi; God's Kids coordinator, Rick Tepper assisted by Jeff Gilliland; media coordinator, Randy Mayfield; children's events coordinator John Rybenski; ticket chairman, Paul Freiert; consultant, KSIV radio personality and columnist for the MetroVoice, Harold Hendrick; mailing list coordinator, Les Hickory; luncheon and T-shirt coordinator, John Wills, baseball player coordinator, Dr. Christe Boen and Kamyar Parighi who takes care of CFD's web site, www.christianfamilyday.com.
Some 13,000 tickets have been set aside by the Cardinal organization for this year's CFD and, at this point in time, the only way to obtain a ticket to the July 14 game is through the CFD committee or at one of the following locations: all One Way Book Stores; Sunshine Unlimited Bookstore in Pontoon Beach, IL; Stuff N More Resell It Shop in House Springs, MO; Lemstone Books in the South County Center and Lifeway Christian Bookstore in Bridgeton. Tickets are $17 each and may be purchased by sending a check to: CFD, Box 576, Chesterfield, MO 63006 or calling (636) 227-3731 and using your Discover, MasterCard or Visa credit cards. Group discounts ($16 per ticket for groups of 25 or more) are also available if purchased before June 4th.
Folks, as a community of believers we need to support this event in anyway possible. In order to make CFD a day to remember for the children, the CFD committee must raise some $42,000 to provide the kids with the meal, beverage and ticket to the game. So, please take the time right now and call the CFD office to see what you can do to help. In fact, volunteers are still needed to help feed the children and share Christ with them, so call (636) 227-9788 to volunteer. Keep in mind, whether it's purchasing a ticket, making a donation or signing up to be a sponsor for next year's game, you'll be making a difference in someone's life. Thousands of children (and adults) have come to know Christ through this event. Our responsibility is to reach out with the Gospel in love, and this is one way to do it.
